On Introducing and Marketing An Innovative New Revenue Stream

During my time as a director of a ‘seasonal dependant’ shore excursion department, budgeting was one of my responsibilities.
One of my greatest challenges was figuring out how to earn additional revenue outside of the restrictive Northern Europe cruise season.
I came up with the idea of a stopover package targeting the fly-cruise market. More specifically those passengers flying to and from cruise destinations in Europe and the U.S. - particularly during Iceland's quieter shoulder seasons.
The pre/post-cruise 4 night stop over package was an instant success and Iceland Travel welcomed the first Ice En Route passengers in the summer of 2014 with a total of 102 passengers.
During the summer season of 2015 these numbers rose to an incredulous 1,187 passengers - accounting for a 1064% passenger increase year on year.

What's interesting about this concept is that there is no ship to service. This is purely about providing a stopover package for transit guests heading to or from their cruise embark debark location. This case scenario could apply to any destination and it need not even have a port in sight!
